Role Details
Innovations for Poverty Action is recruiting a Data Scientist II to support the Global Research and Data Science team. The position is suited to a data professional who can combine strong programming, statistical thinking and practical research support for evidence-focused projects.
Degree or equivalent
in data science, statistics, economics, computer science, social science, public policy or another quantitative field.
At least three years of relevant professional
in data analysis, data science, research data management or applied analytics.
Strong programming ability in Python and SQL, with
using Git or similar tools for reproducible workflows.
Good understanding of statistics, quantitative analysis, data cleaning, documentation and quality checks.
Ability to manage technical work independently while communicating progress, blockers and trade-offs clearly.
working across cultures and building constructive relationships with technical and non-technical colleagues.
Strong written and spoken English communication skills.
with cloud services such as AWS, Google Cloud or Azure.
Familiarity with machine learning, natural language processing, large language models, geospatial analysis or analytics databases.
with Stata, R, SurveyCTO, data integration tools, dashboarding or monitoring systems.
Exposure to international development, policy research, field surveys or research quality assurance.

- Own and deliver technical data-science work that supports IPA research, programme learning and country office needs.
- Translate research and operational questions into practical data workflows, analysis plans, models, dashboards and reproducible outputs.
- Support the quality of data collection, data management, analytics and documentation across different country and sector projects.
- Help teams apply tools such as predictive modelling, natural language processing, large language models, geospatial analysis and automated data pipelines where they are useful and appropriate.

- Lead assigned technical projects from scoping through delivery, including workplans, stakeholder communication, risk tracking and documentation.
- Build, test and maintain analytical workflows using tools such as Python, SQL, R, Stata, SurveyCTO or related data systems.
- Clean, transform, analyse and document datasets so that outputs are accurate, reproducible and understandable to research and policy teams.
- Develop or improve pipelines, data models, scripts, dashboards, reports and visualisations for internal and external users.
- Support research quality audits, data checks, survey tools and field-data workflows in collaboration with country offices and project teams.
- Review code, mentor colleagues, troubleshoot technical issues and promote good practices for version control, testing and reproducible analysis.
- Prepare briefs, presentations and written materials that explain technical findings clearly to non-technical audiences.
