Responsibilities
- Legal Compliance and Documentation
- Ensure strict adherence to the Factories, Offices and Shops Act, 1970 (Act 328) and all related Ghanaian health and safety regulations.
- Manage and track all necessary permits to work, including hot work, excavation, and confined-space permits.
- Maintain comprehensive and organised records of incidents, training, inspections, and safety certifications.
- Risk Management & Auditing
- Conduct systematic daily site inspections and audits to identify hazards and unsafe practices.
- Perform job safety analysis and risk assessments before new activities commence.
- Ensure required controls are implemented to mitigate risks, prioritising elimination and substitution.
- Verify that lifting gear, scaffolds, and machinery are certified, inspected, and safe for use.
- Training & Communication
- Conduct mandatory site orientation and inductions for all new personnel and visitors.
- Prepare and deliver daily toolbox talks and safety briefings relevant to the day's tasks.
- Coordinate and confirm that workers have required training, including first aid, fire safety, and working at heights.
- Site Control & Personal Protective Equipment
- Monitor site access and ensure safety barriers, signage, and exclusion zones are properly maintained.
- Enforce high standards of site housekeeping to prevent slips, trips, and fire hazards.
- Ensure strict and correct use of personal protective equipment by all personnel.
- Incident & Emergency Response
- Develop, communicate, and test emergency response plans, including evacuation routes and assembly points.
- Lead investigations of accidents and near misses to determine root causes.
- Prepare and submit detailed incident reports internally and to relevant Ghanaian government agencies.
- Ensure adequate first aid facilities and certified personnel are available on site at all times.

- in a dedicated health, safety and environment role.
- Proven track record in leading incident and accident investigations, including root-cause analysis, and successfully implementing corrective and preventive actions.
