Responsibilities
- Own the group's day-to-day infrastructure: server and virtual-environment upkeep, LAN/WAN, Wi-Fi, VPN and firewall setup, and a hardware-lifecycle plan that replaces equipment before it starts failing rather than after.
- Decide who can reach what by administering user accounts, authentication and directory services, so access stays tightly controlled across every hospital and clinic in the group.
- Build the hospital's defensive layer - endpoint detection, intrusion prevention and SIEM monitoring - and go looking for threats rather than waiting for an alert to trip.
- Put backup and disaster-recovery plans through genuine testing, not just paperwork, so they hold up on the day the hospital actually needs them.
- Schedule regular vulnerability scans, security audits and penetration-testing coordination, and keep the network's documentation - diagrams, configurations, troubleshooting notes - accurate enough that someone else could pick up where you left off.
Requirements
- A bachelor's degree in Computer Science, IT, Systems Engineering or a similar field is the baseline; a master's in the same territory counts as a bonus rather than a requirement.
- At least one recognised security or networking certification - CompTIA Security+, Cisco CCNA/CCNP, a Microsoft certification or CISSP - alongside five-plus years of hands-on systems and network administration in an institution of comparable size and complexity.
- Solid working knowledge of OSPF/BGP routing, switching and subnetting, plus enough scripting ability to automate away repetitive administrative work.
- Some exposure to cloud platforms (AWS, Azure or GCP) in hybrid setups, and ideally familiarity with security frameworks such as MITRE ATT&CK.
- The composure to stay methodical mid-outage or mid-breach, and the communication skill to explain what went wrong to colleagues who don't work in IT.
