About the Role
MSI Reproductive Choices Ghana (MSIG) is looking for an Obstetrician and Gynaecologist to join its clinical team in Accra. The position is full-time on an initial two-year contract, renewable based on performance, with a three-month probationary period, reporting to the Director of Medical Services.
MSIG is a results-oriented social enterprise and one of Ghana's leading sexual and reproductive health and rights organisations, delivering family planning, safe motherhood, STI screening and fertility counselling through its Centres, Social Marketing and Public Sector Support channels. In this role, the Obstetrician-Gynaecologist will deliver specialist gynaecological and reproductive health care, support and mentor the wider clinical team, uphold high standards of patient care, and contribute to clinical governance, quality assurance and continuous professional development, all in line with MSIG policy, Ghanaian law and national clinical standards.
Clinical Duties
Direct patient care:
obstetric and gynaecological consultation, assessment, diagnosis, treatment and follow-up; comprehensive family planning and contraceptive services; specialist oversight of safe abortion and post-abortion care within what Ghanaian law and MSIG policy permit; gynaecological procedures appropriate to the clinician's competency and the facility's capability; and cervical cancer prevention, screening and management.
Supporting the wider clinical team:
providing clinical advice, technical guidance, mentorship and case-based learning to Medical Officers, Midwives and other health staff; taking part in supportive supervision and competency assessment across MSIG's service-delivery sites; helping develop and periodically review clinical protocols, SOPs, treatment guidelines and care pathways; offering technical input as new clinical services, medicines, devices and reproductive-health technologies are introduced; and helping the wider team manage and follow up complicated cases and adverse clinical outcomes.
Patient
delivering respectful, confidential, non-judgemental, client-centred care that protects dignity, privacy and reproductive choice; ensuring continuity of care through proper follow-up, referral and communication with other providers; keeping clinical documentation and medical records accurate, complete, confidential and current; and handling client concerns or complaints about care appropriately.
Compliance and quality:
staying compliant with the Medical and Dental Council of Ghana and other relevant regulatory bodies; taking part in clinical audits, adverse-event reviews and incident investigations; supporting clinical governance, infection prevention and control, medication safety and patient-safety systems; flagging clinical risks and quality gaps and helping design corrective and preventive action; sticking to approved protocols, documentation standards, infection-prevention practice and emergency-preparedness requirements; and, where needed, supporting engagement with the Ghana Health Service, the Ministry of Health and other regulators on clinical quality matters.
Staying current:
holding a valid licence to practise and the appropriate specialist registration or credentialing in Ghana; keeping up continuing professional development through clinical education, conferences, workshops and specialist training; and staying abreast of emerging evidence, national guidelines and international best practice in obstetrics, gynaecology and sexual and reproductive health.
Qualifications &
A Medical Degree (MD/MBChB/MBBS) recognised in Ghana.
Membership or Fellowship from a postgraduate College of Obstetrics and Gynaecology recognised in Ghana.
Permanent registration with the Ghana Medical and Dental Council and a valid licence to practise.
Additional certification in reproductive health is an advantage, as is prior
in sexual and reproductive health, family planning, clinical governance, quality improvement and mentoring other providers.
