Revna Biosciences is hiring a Senior Scientist, Laboratory Operations Lead in Accra. The role is a hands-on scientific leadership position responsible for laboratory delivery, quality, team performance, clinical diagnostics, genomics, pharmacogenomics, proficiency testing, and biobanking operations.
Role details
Reports to the Technical Director.
Works with the existing Clinical Operations leadership team.
Role context: Revna is expanding its clinical diagnostics, genomics, pharmacogenomics, proficiency testing, and biobanking lines.
The position owns day-to-day laboratory delivery, quality, team performance, technical accountability, and operational discipline.
The role contributes directly to Revna's work in precision medicine, personalised medicine, diagnostics, therapeutics, health education, and clinical research.
Key
Responsibilities
- Oversee day-to-day delivery of high-quality laboratory services while maintaining turnaround times and client satisfaction.
- Perform and supervise laboratory investigations across microscopy, haematology, chemical pathology, molecular workflows, genomics, and pharmacogenomics.
- Resolve technical laboratory problems and manage situations that could otherwise cause service delivery failure.
- Ensure reagents are prepared, stored, and used properly for patient investigations.
- Ensure equipment is maintained through routine maintenance and quality control checks.
- Manage quality control failures, method performance issues, equipment maintenance, reagents, audits, and quality improvement activities.
- Participate in internal and external quality assurance activities and audits of clinical technical services.
- Assist with costing for commercial trials and contracts where necessary.
- Assign duties, set performance standards, manage immediate team members, and enforce escalation discipline.
- Conduct performance assessments, review lower-level employee assessments, and address underperformance directly.
- Administer discipline in line with the company's disciplinary code, including documentation and recommendations for action.
- Identify training needs, organise or recommend training, and lead induction for interns and students.
- Model ownership, accountability, and continuous growth within the laboratory team.
- Support clinical research, commercial trials, sample management, protocol adherence, and audit-ready documentation.
- Contribute to planning and development activities that improve laboratory and diagnostic services.
- Provide structured scientific and operational input into improvements to ROBIN, Revna's digital platform.
- Provide technical expertise for design, production, validation, and evaluation of proficiency testing items and schemes.
- Evaluate participant results, support root-cause analysis of poor performance, and help develop performance evaluation criteria.
- Manage biospecimen collection, processing, storage, tracking, QA/QC standards, cold-chain requirements, and LIMS traceability.
- Support research and clinical projects through documentation, inventory control, and biospecimen distribution.
- Comply with company policies, operating procedures, regulatory requirements, and health, safety, and risk standards.
Requirements
- Master degree in biomedical science, medical laboratory science, chemistry, biochemistry, biology, microbiology, or a related science.
- Doctoral degree is an advantage.
- Current professional licensure with the Allied Health Professions Council or eligibility for Ghana registration.
- At least eight years of proven
Experience

- Demonstrated

- Broad operational knowledge across microbiology, haematology, blood transfusion, chemical pathology, histopathology, or cytology.
