Job Description
The Transport Officer is responsible for transporting flight crew and staff in a safe and timely manner. The driver is responsible for loading and offloading the catering van and maintaining proper inventory of all daily operational inflight supplies. The driver shall ensure the safety and security of operations while carrying out duties and shall report to the Transport Supervisor.
Safely operate company vehicles (cars, vans, buses, trucks, etc.) in all types of traffic and weather conditions, following assigned routes and schedules.
Conduct thorough pre- and post-trip inspections, including checking oil, fuel, brakes, tires, lights, and other key components, reporting any mechanical or security issues promptly to the Transport Supervisor.
Ensure full compliance with all traffic laws, safety regulations, and the company’s vehicle-use policies, including those of Africa World Airlines, GCAA, and other regulatory authorities.
Pick up and drop off crew, staff, goods, and materials at designated locations, ensuring timely and safe arrivals.
Maintain cleanliness of vehicle interiors and exteriors at all times.
Accurately log trips, fuel consumption, mileage, and other required records.
Use navigation tools (e.g., Google Maps) to plan and adjust routes for efficiency and timeliness.
Assist with loading and unloading goods when required, ensuring safe handling practices.
Ensure passenger capacity regulations are strictly followed at all times.
Report any accidents, delays, damages, or issues affecting service efficiency before the close of day.
Maintain a professional appearance, always wearing the company uniform and required safety gear.
Exhibit punctuality, reliability, and strong time management while working effectively under pressure and in varying weather conditions.
Communicate respectfully and professionally with colleagues and supervisors, demonstrating strong interpersonal skills in a multicultural work environment.
Apply basic vehicle mechanical knowledge and ensure proper maintenance procedures are followed.
Perform other related duties as assigned by the Transport Supervisor.
Competence (Knowledge/Skills/Abilities)
Good general health and fitness.
Good vision and hearing.
Excellent knowledge of traffic laws and regulations.
Excellent knowledge of motor vehicle functionality.
Excellent driving skills.
Demonstrate knowledge of vehicle maintenance.
Skilled in driving light and heavy vehicles.
Capable of maintaining focus and delivering results in fast-paced situations.
Oral and written communication skills.
Self-starter, highly motivated and disciplined.
Must be physically fit with great stamina, with the ability to bend, kneel, and stoop
Effectively manages multiple tasks according to their level of urgency and importance
Push and/or lift over 50kg of weight.
Qualification &
Experience
A minimum of SSCE certificate or equivalent
A minimum of 5 years’
in driving
Should possess a minimum class/type C driver’s license
A Certificate in the Automotive Mechanical field is an advantage
in warehousing and deliveries is an advantage.
Aircraft Catering Loading
Assist catering personnel with loading and unloading of the catering vehicle.
Load and offload carts, trollies, equipment and supplies onto and off aircraft as per flight
specifications.
Monitor aircraft registration, arrival and departure times to prioritize work assignments.
Deliver catering supplies to and from the warehouse to aircraft or other locations as required
Communicate effectively with the catering personnel.
Perform all tasks in a safe and hygienic manner.
Maintain regular housekeeping of the catering van.
