Requirements
- Accra, Ghana (on-ground, in-market — not remote) Type: Full-time Reports to: Founder / Head of Global Expansion Travel: Frequent domestic travel across regions; occasional travel to SF / Shenzhen
- About the client
- Solving Physical AI will be humanity's greatest achievement. Build co-designs hardware, operations, infrastructure, and research to conduct planet-scale data collection and solve physical labour.
- We are vertically integrated by design — we build our own capture hardware, run our own manufacturing and logistics, operate our own collection networks, and train our own models. We are headquartered in San Francisco with operations in Shenzhen, and we are now opening Africa.
- Ghana is one of our first markets on the continent. We are hiring the person who will build it.
- The Role
- You will launch and own the client in Ghana end to end.
- This means building new sales, logistics, marketing, and on-ground operations from 0 to 1, negotiating partnerships with local businesses, institutions, and government, and hiring exceptional teams. You must be aggressive, hungry, and deeply determined.
- This is a highly autonomous role. You will own the results of your country — the P&L, the team, the throughput, the quality, the reputation.
- You are not a paper-manager overseeing operations. You are a founder-operator running a country.
- What You Will Own
- 1. On-ground operations You will develop, master, and scale every part of the data collection system yourself before you delegate any of it. Recruiting and onboarding collectors, distributing and maintaining capture hardware, running quality control, managing collector payouts (MTN MoMo and equivalents), and hitting weekly volume and quality targets. If throughput drops, it is your problem, and you are in the field fixing it.
- 2. Market expansion and launch strategy You will identify where we go next — Greater Accra and Tema first, then Kumasi, Takoradi, Tamale and beyond — and execute the launch strategy independently. That includes:
- Building exceptional local sales teams for both door-to-door and cold calling
- Hiring and training sales and operations managers under you
- Running Meta ads and UGC campaigns to drive collector and partner acquisition
- Sending mass cold outbound
- Establishing partnerships with local business owners, trade associations, market queens and traders' unions, traditional authorities, MMDAs, and enterprises
- 3. Scale, infrastructure, and compliance You will build your own team, stand up the logistics and data upload infrastructure (including in low-bandwidth environments), resolve regulatory complications, and ensure timely delivery of high-quality data. You will own our standing with the Data Protection Commission and our registration as a data controller under the Data Protection Act 2012 (Act 843), our consent and privacy posture, entity setup through the Registrar General and GIPC, district-level permits, GRA and SSNIT compliance, and the contracting model for collectors.
- Key Point
- You are joining at the inflection point of the company. These next 3 months determine whether we succeed or fail. You will get to solve many novel, deeply challenging problems in a fast-paced environment, where your actions directly impact company success or failure.
- There is no playbook for this market. You are writing it.
- What Success Looks Like
- First 30 days — You are in the field yourself. Entity, banking, and compliance groundwork in motion. First cohort of collectors recruited, trained, and capturing. First data delivered and accepted by the research team.
- First 90 days — Accra operating reliably at target weekly volume and quality. Core team hired (ops manager, sales lead, QC). Repeatable collector acquisition channel proven. At least two partnership or institutional agreements signed. Unit economics per hour of usable data understood and improving.
- First 6–12 months — Multiple regions live. A team you hired running day-to-day operations without you in the middle. Ghana operating as a template other African markets are launched from.
- Who You Are
- Required
- 6+ years building and running on-ground operations in Ghana, with real ownership of outcomes — not oversight of someone else's
- You have launched something from zero. A market, a region, a business line, a company. You can walk us through what you built, what broke, and what you did about it
- You have hired, trained, and managed field teams at scale — sales agents, riders, agents, collectors, or equivalent
- Deep working knowledge of Ghana beyond Accra: district assemblies, traditional authorities, informal sector dynamics, local business networks, how things actually get done
- Commercially sharp. You can negotiate, close, and hold a line on price and terms
- Numerate. You run your operation off a dashboard, not a feeling
- Comfortable with ambiguity, thin infrastructure, and a founder who moves fast
- Willing to be in the field — in trotros, in warehouses, on construction sites, in markets — not behind a desk
- Strong advantage
- for recorded human subjects
- Existing relationships across MMDAs, trade associations, traditional authorities, or large employers
