Buck Press Limited is recruiting a Senior Machine Operator (Press) for its Head Office at Ofankor on the Accra-Nsawam Highway. The role is responsible for setting up, operating, servicing and monitoring printing press machines so daily production is completed safely, accurately and to the required quality standard.
Job Purpose
The Senior Machine Operator (Press) will run automated press systems, prepare jobs for print, supervise apprentices where required and keep the press area disciplined, clean and properly documented. The work requires strong press-operation experience, good judgement during production, and the ability to detect faults early before they affect quality, waste or delivery timelines.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor automated press operation systems, including CPTronic and CPC controls, and respond quickly to fault, error and alert messages.
- Train apprentices and direct or monitor their work during production activities.
- Identify minor machine defects, resolve basic issues where appropriate and escalate faults that require further attention.
- Prepare ink by obtaining or mixing required colours, filling ink fountains and adjusting fountain flow rates.
- Secure printing plates to printing units, set tolerances and start the press to pull proofs for ink coverage, density, alignment and registration checks.
- Clean ink fountains, plates and printing-unit cylinders after press runs are completed.
- Collect and inspect random samples during print runs, making necessary adjustments to protect quality and consistency.
- Adjust digital files to correct art elements such as fonts, graphics and colour separations where required for the job.
- Change press plates, blankets or cylinders when production requirements call for it.
- Review job orders to confirm quantities, stock specifications, colours and special printing instructions before or during production.
- Feed paper through press cylinders and adjust feed controls based on paper size and tension requirements.
- Confirm that paper, ink and related materials meet the required specifications for each print job.
- Maintain production time records and monitor inventory levels, requesting additional supplies when needed.
- Keep output, quality checks, handover notes and fault reports properly recorded.
- Maintain cleanliness around the machine and surrounding production area.
- Support discipline among machine operators and apprentices and carry out other duties assigned by the supervisor.

- Qualifications, Experience and Skills
- NVTII or equivalent qualification, or specific machine-operation experience relevant to printing press work.
- At least eight years of experience operating two or more printing machines.
- Ability to work with limited supervision and support the supervision of machine apprentices.
- Quality-control analysis skills, including the ability to inspect products, services or processes and judge quality or performance.
- Reading comprehension skills for understanding written job instructions, procedures and work-related documents.
- Monitoring and active-listening skills to assess personal performance, machine-apprentice performance and instructions from colleagues or supervisors.
- Critical thinking and judgement for comparing possible solutions and choosing practical actions during production.
- Good time management, interpersonal skills and ability to work under pressure.
